Eligibility:
• Dissertation applicants must be doctoral candidates in the final year of writing the dissertation.
• Postdoctoral candidates must be scholars who have obtained the Ph.D. within the past five years. .
• All applicants must be citizens of a sub-Saharan African country residing and working in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda.

Scholarship Description: Fellowship support is in the form of stipends: $10,000 for dissertation-completion Fellows and $17,000 for postdoctoral Fellows, plus an additional $1,000 per Fellow for books and media. Fellowships are intended to release recipients from teaching and other duties for an academic year so as to permit fulltime research and writing. (They may be used to “buy time.”) Recipients of both kinds of fellowship are also eligible for further support in the form of a residency at a participating research center in sub-Saharan Africa for a sustained period of writing away from a Fellow’s home institution. Approximately forty fellowships will be awarded annually in all five countries combined. Awards will be decided by an international committee of distinguished scholars in the humanitie

Scholarships Description :The Putnam Fellowships award provides stipends of up to $40,000 per year, depending on professional status, need, and duration of the fellowship. In addition, modest support is available for research and travel costs. Putnam Fellows are employees of Harvard University during their tenure and are eligible for health insurance benefits.


 Putnam Fellows are expected to publish the results of their research in professional or academic journals and present their work at professional meetings and workshops.Putnam Fellows are also expected to engage fully in the professional activities of the Arnold Arboretum and be in full-time residence during their tenure. While the primary work of Putnam Fellows is conducting original independent research that utilizes the living collections of the Arboretum, Putnam Fellowship are also expected to work collaboratively with the staff of the Arboretum on other institutional efforts. Participation as an instructor for Arnold Arboretum education programs is encouraged, as is writing for Arnoldia, the Arboretum’s quarterly magazine. The fellowship is typically awarded for 1 year, with an option for a second year renewal upon review. Shorter appointments, of no less than 3 months, are also possible. Putnam Fellows must initiate their term at the Arboretum within 12 months of notification.

Scholarships Description: This two year fixed term post will drive forward research in emergency care and actively contribute to the work of the Centre for Clinical and Health Services Research.


The post requires a researcher with the ability to develop new research proposals, prepare grant applications, project manage ongoing work and to contribute to the existing strengths of the emergency care research programme.
