Eligibility: Applicants must have completed all Ph.D. degree requirements (completed and filed the dissertation) between July 2007 and July 2012. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. in a social science discipline, including history, working on modern Southeast Asia. Applications from individuals who hold or have held regular faculty positions will not be considered.

Scholarship Description: The Fellow will also participate in initiatives such as the INTERACT program aimed at improving global literacy specifically with regard to Southeast Asian studies among Columbia students, and will be an integral participant in day-to-day activities at the WEAI. Candidates from all social science disciplines, including history, are welcome to apply. The fellowship will cover a 10-month period beginning August 1, 2012, and comes with a stipend of $45,000 plus benefits.

Scholarship Description: Within the large collaborative FP7 project EDENext (WP Tick-borne diseases), the student will conduct a sub-project on the identification and molecular characterisation of the genetic variability of a series of pathogens found within questing, engorged ticks and reservoir hosts. Questing, feeding ticks and biological samples collected from a variety of reservoirs hosts collected across Trentino and other EDENext sampling sites, will be sampled and analysed using several types of appropriate molecular markers. The aim of the research is to understand the ecological relationships of tick borne pathogens in different habitats of natural foci; to gain insight into the tick pathogen community structure and variability in relation to host community composition and tick genetic variability providing estimates for parameters critical for the development of predictive models of tick-borne disease risk. The student will have the opportunity to propose innovative tools and spend at least 6 months in an external laboratory.

The SentiMAG trial is a phase II/II trial that is about to be launched.There may also be the option of some clinical duties in outpatients and theatre. The post holder will participate in undergraduate teaching.

The NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship Programs is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation.

- Applicants need not be citizens of the United States; however, they must be candidates for the doctoral degree at a graduate school within the United States.
-Fellowships are not intended to finance data collection or the completion of doctoral coursework, but rather to support the final analysis of the research topic and the writing of the dissertation. For this reason, all applicants must document that they will have completed all pre-dissertation requirements by June 1, 2012 and must provide a clear and specific plan for completing the dissertation within a one or two-year time frame.
-Applicants should have a demonstrated record of research experience in education.
- Proposed project must be an education research project. NAEd/Spencer funds studies that examine the efficacy of curriculum and teaching methods, however, we do not fund the initial development of curriculum or instructional programs.
- Applications will be judged on the applicant’s past research record, career trajectory in education research, and the quality of the project described in the application.
- Fellows may not accept employment other than as described in the application, nor may they accept other awards without prior approval (including awards from NAEd or Spencer) that would provide duplicate benefits.

Scholarship Description: Use your skills in plant breeding and seed systems to help ensure food security for the poor in Africa! The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is looking for an innovative, results-oriented young scientist with excellent skills in plant breeding and seed systems to support the development and deployment of high-yielding, stress-tolerant maize germplasm in Sub-Saharan Africa.
